The back to school laundry pile — sorted before the new term starts

The last weekend of the summer holidays is supposed to feel relaxed. It rarely does. Somewhere between finding the PE bag that’s been at the bottom of the wardrobe since July, realising the school trousers no longer fit, and trying to remember where the lunch box went, there’s also a mountain of laundry that needs doing before Monday morning.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Back to school laundry preparations catch most parents off guard every single year — and this is where our local laundry service can genuinely help you take something off your many many spinning plates.

The back to school laundry pile is bigger than you think

It sneaks up on you. You’ve had a great summer. The kids have worn the same three outfits on rotation for six weeks, which seemed fine at the time. Then suddenly it’s the last week of August, you’re doing a kit check, and you realise the state of everything.

School uniforms that need washing and pressing. PE kits that have been living in a bag since the last day of term have now started growing their own eco systems, and not in a good science project kind of way. There is also the swimming kit, football boots, the good coat that got muddy on a walk and never quite recovered and many many more items. We are parents too we know the drill all to well!! Separating school clothes from everything else and working out what needs a proper wash, what needs ironing, and what needs replacing is its own afternoon’s work — before you’ve even started.

Mud stains, paint stains, ink stains — the school laundry special

Summer laundry is one thing. School laundry is another. Once term starts, you’re dealing with a different kind of washing: mud stains from the field, paint stains from art, ink stains on shirt cuffs, grass knees on every pair of trousers. It comes home every week and it piles up fast.

Getting stains out of school uniforms takes the right temperatures and the right detergents — and doing it properly first time means the uniform lasts longer and looks better. Bundling it into a quick cycle when you’ve got ten minutes doesn’t always cut it.

Why a laundry service makes sense at this time of year

There’s a reason so many parents start thinking about a laundry service in September. The laundry chores don’t stop — they increase. Sports kits, five days of uniform, PE bags every week. Add in the rest of the family wash and it becomes a constant background task that never quite gets finished.

Our wash, dry and fold service starts from £2.60 per kg with a minimum of 6kg — that’s the equivalent of a proper family load for around £15.60. We also offer ironing priced per garment if you want uniform pressed and ready to hang up. It’s not a luxury — it’s a practical solution for busy households that have better things to do at the weekend than stand over an ironing board.

How it works — simpler than you’d expect

There’s no app, no subscription, no complicated booking system. You WhatsApp us, we sort out the details, and you drop off or we collect — pickup and delivery starts from £5.

Turnaround is typically 24 hours. So if you drop washing off on a morning, it normally comes back the same day in the evening, only this time cleaned, dried and folded. School uniform included!

If you’d rather drop off yourself, that’s free. We’re based just outside Northwich and easy to get to — most customers who try the collection and delivery service don’t go back to dropping off, but both options are there.

What to send and what to expect back

Everything comes back washed at the right temperature for the fabric, dried properly, and folded or hung. School uniforms, PE kits, sports kits, everyday clothes — all of it. If you add ironing, shirts and blouses come back pressed. You unpack, you hang, you’re done.

The government’s school uniform guidance is clear that uniform requirements vary by school, but the one constant is that it needs to look presentable. That’s a lot easier when you’re not trying to iron six shirts at 7am on a Monday.
